Dialogue in the Dark
The Social Problem
Globally more than 650 million people have to live with disabilities. More specifically, about 285 million people are visually impaired and 39 million of them are blind. Blind people face severe challenges in the labor market and in their daily lives, being constantly confronted by stereotypes, fears, avoidance and prejudice.
Dialogue in the Dark has been established by the German social entrepreneur Andreas Heinecke in 1990 to address the employment issues of blind people as well as the above-mentioned aspects of social exclusion.
They developed an exhibition format, where blind guides lead groups through various rooms of daily situations in complete darkness. They also created new formats such as leadership workshops and restaurants in the dark, and expanded globally to more than 20 countries with more than 7 million visitors so far.
